A prayer of obedience
Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
Jesus knew the time for him to be arrested and killed was getting closer, he was sorrowful emotionally. So Jesus took his disciples to a quiet place to pray to God. He honestly told God to change His plan, if God was willing. However, he was willing to obey God’s plan and not his own will.
What kind of situations do you have more trouble obeying God or your parents?
Jesus is very powerful and already knew that he would be arrested and killed. But he did not run away. Instead, he continued to obey God because he had a very important mission, that is to save the world. Jesus loves everyone and he overcame fear through prayer, so that he could obey God’s will and sacrifice himself. We must thank Jesus for all he has done. He died for our sins so we should not sin easily anymore!
Dear Jesus, Thank you for obeying God’s plan and making the difficult decision to be nailed to the cross for our sins. Please help me to avoid being a selfish person and learn from you as a role model to obey God and love others. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!
